In addition to extensive American travel, during my long design career I was fortunate to have the opportunity to visit many cities, art museums, art installations and cultural treasures in North America, Europe and Asia. Photographing unique historical and cultural locations has become an integral part of my travels, contributing to my architectural education and provides a reference point for my more recent work "stateside". Of all the cities visited over the years, two stand out above the rest - the amazing and complex island city of Venice, Italy, and the historic temple city of Kyoto, Japan. Both cities boast centuries-old architectural gems, many of them traditional religious structures. Both are unique in the history of their nations, having been independent countries in the distant past. And both cities have some of the finest architecture ever created.
